But, ultimately, we make a conscious choice in what we eat, and that doesn't mean necessarily listening to what our body is actually craving. I know that I will sometimes sit and negotiate with myself over a sugary muffin post workout and it is HARD to get my brain to let go of that bad idea to opt for something more healthy. Some research suggests that depravation (e.g. restrictive diets) leads to craving the banned foods even more once our guards are down and that helps (somewhat) explain the yoyo diet effect.

As for the diets of African runners, in-country most don't have the kind of crap food options that we do to choose from, but many of them live and train in the US where BK broilers abound. Yet, they don't seem to choose those options. As Kibe says, it's all about discipline.Jaymeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01680519617786773673noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2668199593986982895.post-6579310991427242042009-10-31T04:23:39.486-07:002009-10-31T04:23:39.486-07:00I've always thought that craving is a natural,...I've always thought that craving is a natural, necessary physiological reaction to hard training, not a conscious choice or even a matter of cultural attitude. In less developed countries like Kenya or Ethiopia, I don't even know that the kinds of processed food that typically make people fat are an option.

Like you, I run shitloads of miles and still can't eat anything I want. If anything, my metabolism has become more efficient as a result. Grr.

I wonder what the Germans made of Sir Chomps-a-Lot.Juliehttp://raceslikeagirl.comnoreply@blogger.com
